Sea blockades hit LTTE's gun running
The LTTE's gun running activities have dropped drastically due to the
sea blockades created by the Navy, Defence sources said.
According to sources around ten LTTE vessels including three ships
have been destroyed by the Navy with the support of the Air Force in the
past six months and the latest was the destruction of an LTTE ship in
the Maldivian waters last month by the Maldivian security forces.
"Due to the blockades with intensified patrols around Lankan waters
the LTTE is striving hard to find new sea routes to continue with their
gun running activities.
The LTTE cadres who have been taken into custody following the
destruction of their vessel in the Maldivian waters have even admitted
that the outfit is finding it difficult to make inroads into the Lankan
waters to achieve their ends," sources said.
Elaborating further on the LTTE's sea movements the sources added
that neighbouring countries as well as countries in the South East Asian
countries have also intensified their monitoring activities to prevent
the covert activities of the LTTE in the seas.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu police force along with six other adjoining
South Indian States will launch a satellite monitoring system to keep
vigil on the LTTE activities on Indian soil.
At a recent meeting, the South Indian States have decided to increase
their coordination with regard to the curbing of the LTTE activities and
thwarting the outfit's links with terrorist organisations in India,
sources said.
