Nostalgic reminiscence of his childhood

Exhibition of paintings by visiting artist R. M. Naeem at Paradise Road Galleries until 15th October 2007, 10 a.m. - 12 midnight

"My work is an outcome of a series of stimulus from my environment. At one level it is a nostalgic reminiscence of my childhood days when we use to make paper boats and play with them.

At another level this toy boat symbolizes the Noah's ark and in turn is an extension of how religion is intrinsically ingrained in every child which comes forth in this world. Another stratum of my work celebrates the indigenousness that is a part of my entity.

The religious iconography which I have connoted through these sexless, bald headed figures are a symbol of how all religions impart the message of peace and it is this factor which binds mankind. In fact it is a sense of belonging to a metaphysical ideology and a need to perform mystic rituals which is a unanimous need of mankind which connects one individual to another."

Artist R. M. Naeem is well versed with his field of work and has widely exhibited his work in Pakistan which is his country of birth. Besides that he has participated in many International Artist Camps and Workshops which have given him the broad exposure which he deserved and in turn has opened paths such as the present one to travel and exhibit his work outside his country.
