Army thwarts LTTE infiltration attempt at Vavuniya FDL

The Sri Lankan Army received bodies of two valiant soldiers - an
officer and a soldier - on Friday through the International Red cross
handed over by the LTTE. The bodies were handed over at the Omanthai
entry/exit point, official military reports state.
These Army personnel died during recent confrontations in west of
Omanthai in Vavuniya which were at an intense level for the past four
days.
During the clashes in the past few days, sixteen (16) LTTE cadres
were killed, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said.
"Tiger terrorists tried to infiltrate the Forward Defence Line in
Vavuniya.
Army retaliated thawarting the Tiger attempt," Military Spokesman
Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. He said that no clashes were reported
on Friday.
In Welioya three LTTE cadres including an area leader 'Kalivalan',
were killed on Friday during a confrontation, the military reported. |
