The Sri Lankan Army received bodies of two valiant soldiers - an officer and a soldier - on Friday through the International Red cross handed over by the LTTE. The bodies were handed over at the Omanthai entry/exit point, official military reports state.

These Army personnel died during recent confrontations in west of Omanthai in Vavuniya which were at an intense level for the past four days.

During the clashes in the past few days, sixteen (16) LTTE cadres were killed, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said.

"Tiger terrorists tried to infiltrate the Forward Defence Line in Vavuniya.

Army retaliated thawarting the Tiger attempt," Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. He said that no clashes were reported on Friday.

In Welioya three LTTE cadres including an area leader 'Kalivalan', were killed on Friday during a confrontation, the military reported.
