The BCS Sri Lanka Section hosted its ninth National Best Quality
Software Awards (NBQSA) 2007 at Water's Edge amidst a large gathering of
professionals from the IT industry last week. Several professionals who
excelled in IT related work in different spheres received awards. The
NBQSA awards 2007 was organised by the British Computer Society (BCS)
which celebrated 50 years recently.
Chairman BCS Sri Lanka Section Dr. Gihan Wickremanayake said 36
products, 42 projects from 28 companies and five universities competed
for awards this year. The difficult task of selecting the winners were
done by a panel of judges from the industry and the academia.
Wickremanayake said that he was happy to have Cliff Lineker on the
occasion when BCS celebrated 50 years. Lineker was responsible for
initiating BCS and ICDL examination in Sri Lanka.
Cliff Lineker of the BCS said that Sri Lanka was the most vibrant BCS
section in the world with 3,500 members. The membership has been
steadily growing with 60,000 members in 100 countries.
New BCS qualifications and training continue to develop with the
demand growing in areas of security, software testing, service delivery
and service management. Our professional examinations continue to grow
in existing and new markets with Sri Lanka being a key contributor to
this success, he said. Mission Director USAID Rebecca Cohn also spoke. |
