President Mahinda Rajapaksa addresses the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi yesterday. The President said the experiences of India and Sri Lanka in the six decades since independence would lead them to mature understanding that generalised and that solely theoretical experiences do not work in practice. “My vision is of an India that can never be separated from my vision of Sri Lanka, the President said.

Arbour's visit reflects Govt's transparency

Reiterating the Government's willingness to have a continuous dialogue with the United Nations Human Rights Commission, Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights Mahinda Samarasinghe said that the transparency and openers of the government would reflect on the visit of UN Commissioner of the Human Rights Louise Arbour.

President ready to talk with genuine negotiators

"If those who carry arms against the State are willing to enter a genuine negotiation towards a peaceful and democratic solution, the Government and the people will reciprocate, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said during his address to the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi yesterday.

Restrictions on fishing in East relaxed

The naval restrictions imposed on fishing boats in the Eastern seas have been lifted and fishermen in the area can engage in fishing at any time, the Fisheries Minister Felix Perera told the Sunday Observer.

New electric motor-cycle

 

A model poses during a launch of a new electric motor-cycle ‘Velociti Hero Ultra electric scooter’ in New Delhi. The Hero Group of India has signed a joint venture agreement with Ultra Motor Company of Britain, to create a new joint venture company called Hero Ultra (Pvt) Ltd. The Velociti was launched alongside the Optima and both ranges will be priced between Indian Rupees 29,000 to 34,000 (USD 737-864). AFP
