CMC to meet UDA tomorrow

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will meet the Urban Development Authority (UDA) administration tomorrow to discuss the construction of permanent flats for victims who lost their houses due to a sudden fire that broke out at Madampitiya Road, Grandpass on Friday.

At least 25 houses were completely destroyed in the fire caused by a gas cylinder explosion. According to Police nearly twenty six families were affected and they are now being temporarily sheltered in a temple.

CMC, Mayor Uaviz Mohamed Imtiyaz told the `Sunday Observer' that steps will be taken to construct permanent flats for them either at the same premises or any other place, approved by the UDA.

"The CMC is not in a position to bear a large sum of money to construct the houses and the Government's assistance is immensely needed to fulfil the obligations of victimised families," he said.
