Love that can't be expressed
The war, the soldiers and the memories in everyday life.
"He can feel the hunger
He can feel thirst
He can feel the pain
He can feel love
A solder is human..."

The artist in his workshop |
An exhibition of a series of relief sculptures and installations by
Sanath Kalubadana will be at the Theertha Red Dot Gallery, from October
14-31, 2007.
Kalubadana investigates the personal perceptions one has of soldiers
and how these perceptions get confronted with the popular and socially
constructed imagery of a soldier.
Looking at the solider in a very humane way, he portrays the soldier
as a person who feels normal emotions, and who comes from a similar
social and cultural background like the artist himself. As said before,
everybody has their own personal view of a soldier.
This personal view is sometimes shattered by the media hype and
political interventions where the soldier is elevated as a hero and a
saviour of the nation and sometimes made into an agent of aggression, a
murderous killer or a rapist. So Who are you, Soldier? |
