Divi Neguma phase 3 under way

The Economic Development Ministry has designed a follow-up program
for 'Divi Neguma' Phase 3 to ensure its success.
According to Ministry Additional Secretary R.R.K.A. Ranawaka, the
Grama Niladhari, Samurdhi Officer, Agriculture Research and Production
Assistant and Development Assistant of a Grama Niladhari (GN) Division
will follow up the progress of the families who have benefited from the
scheme and support them when technical assistance is required.
The third phase of the Divi Neguma program launched on April 5, is
implemented in 14,019 GN Divisions, among 2.5 million families, to
strengthen the domestic economy and the nutritious levels of the people.
Under the program, varieties of seedlings, around 200,000 coconut
saplings, 2,000,000 fruit plants such as rambutan and mangoes, 80,000
cadju saplings, 20,000 pepper and 500,000 papaw plants, 70,000 chicks
and 60 cows and 50 coir machines will be distributed. There will be 150
fisheries projects.
The families will also receive cash assistance on easy payment terms,
training in small industries and self-employment programs.
Nearly 75,000 officials from various ministries including Home
Affairs, Agriculture, Fisheries, Samurdhi, Economic Development, Minor
Crops, Livestock and Animal Husbandry carried out a house- to-house
program till March 31. Under the first phase of Divi Neguma 1.5 million
households were included in the program and under the second phase 2.1
million households were targeted.
