The white feathered dove is the symbol of peace the world over. For the Tamils and Sinhalese there is also another bird which is a symbol of joy and peace the ‘Koha’ with its long drawn stuccato chirrup is the precursor of new year. Many countries specially Asia have their own new years day.

Jungle fowl, the national emblem of Sri Lanka

The International Council for Bird Preservation (ICBP) at its 14th conference, held in Tokyo in June 1960 unanimously passed a resolution selecting the Jungle Cock (an endemic species) as the emblem of the Ceylon branch.
