schoolchildren irrespective of age limits was highlighted by Education

of handling computers and the use of the Internet.

computers and the internet cannot be used properly without a sound
knowledge of English. Minister Gunawardane was addressing an event at
Welagedara, Kurunegala recently.

facilities in their schools as the Government has provided computers not
only for urban schools, but also for rural schools.
"Our objective is to improve the knowledge of schoolchildren on
computer literacy and the newly launched `Web Patasala' information
technology program is a good example," he said. The Minister called upon
the 4.3 million schoolchildren, especially those pursuing higher
