Trinity-Peterite clash in Twenty 20 final

Trinity College, Kandy put themselves in line for their third title
prior to closing their school cricket season when they meet St. Peter’s
College, Bambalapitiya in the Youth 19 T20 cricket final at the CCC
grounds at 1.30 pm today.
The third place play off between Richmond and St. Sylvester’s will
take place at 10 am while the final between St. Peter’s and Trinity will
be played at 1.30pm at the CCC grounds today.
Trinity beat Richmond College, Galle in the first semi final by 35
runs and St. Peter’s got the better of St. Sylvester’s Kandy defeating
them by 6 runs in the second semi final played at the CCC grounds
yesterday.
The Trinitians were in a bad way losing five of their top batsmen for
89 at one stage . But two useful stands by Ron Chandragupta (30) and
Dinuk Wickremanayake (32) added 50 runs for the fifth wicket.
It was followed by another 55 runs for the seventh wicket between
Akila Jayasundera (40 n.o) and Rajitha Jayatunga (17) saw them reach 157
for 7 in their 20 overs.
Richmond in their turn despite an unbeaten 36 by Hasitha Madushan and
Pabasara Waduge (31) managed only 122 for 8 in their stipulated 20 overs.
Akila Jayasundera took 2 for 23.
In the second semi final between St. Peter’s and St. Sylvester’s ,
the Peterites spearheaded by a 51 ball 71 with five fours and three
sixes by skipper Shehan Fernando and a further 34 by Shashen Fernando
saw them reach 153 for 7 in their 20 overs.
The Sylvestrians in their run chase was well on course with R.
Ekanayake 46 off 36 deliveries and Harsha Madushan 42 giving them the
early advantage. But medium pacer Ranitha Liyanarachchi (4 for 22) and
Ali Khan (2 for 5) restricted their opponents to record a close 6 run
win.
First semi final.
Trinity: 157 for 7 in 20 overs (Akila Jayasundera 40 n.o,
Dinuk Wickremanayake 32, Ron Chandragupta 30, Janishka Premasinghe 30,
A.K. Tyronne 3 for 19).
Richmond: 122 for 8 in 20 overs (Hasitha Madushan 36 n.o,
Pabasara Waduge 31, Akila Jayasundera 2 for 23).
Second semi final.
St.Peter’s: 153 for 7 in 20 overs (Shehan Fernando 71, Shashen
Fernando 36, Lahiru Milantha 27, Indunil Samaranoda 2 for 28).
St.Sylvester’s: 147 for 9 in 20 overs (R. Ekanayake 46, Harsha
Madushan 42, Ranitha Liyanarachchi 4 for 22, Ali Khan 2 for 5). |
