Security tightened in A'pura, Mihintale for Poson

Security will be strengthened in Anuradhapura and Mihintale during
the Poson season to protect the large number of devotees.
Over 4,000 police, Army and civil security force officers will be
deployed for the purpose, said SP Anuradhapura Mahesh Perera.
He said a special traffic plan will be implemented in both cities.
Motorists could enter the sacred area through the Jayanthi Roundabout,
Pothanegama Wessagiri Mawatha, Pandulugama area and Vilachchiya Lolugas
Junction.
On their return motorists should drive through, the Jaffna junction.
In the event of traffic congestion, a one way traffic plan will be
implemented.
Meanwhile, all bars will be close in the Anuradhapura district from
June 1-7.
Liquor bar licences will be cancelled if they flout regulations.
Strict legal action will be taken against them, according to the North
Central Province Assistant Commissioner of Excise Department Gamini
Adhikari. Four teams have been set up to nab those who sell drugs during
Poson to enable devotees to engage in worship, said a spokesman for the
Anuradhapura Excise Department office.
