SLIM welcomes the Young Marketeers Dinal and Wishmini from Cannes
Two young marketeers - Dinal Edirisinghe and Wishmini Perera from
Aitken Spence - fared well in the Young Lion's market competition at the
Cannes Advertising Festival 2012 grabbing fourth place.
The Young Lion's marketeer program is a platform dedicated to young
individuals below 30 in all countries across the world Sri Lanka
Institute of Marketing (SLIM) not only initiated the process of sending
the marketeers to Cannes for the first time but also provided them with
a part scholarship for the entire cost. SLIM President Tilan
Wijeyesekera said that SLIM as the national body in marketing, saw the
Cannes program as an opportunity to develop young and upcoming marketing
talent.
This success proved that Sri Lanka has the level of talent to succeed
in the global arena and such achievements will certainly uplift the
standards of the marketing fraternity in the country. "SLIM hopes to
build on this great achievement by developing a dedicated forum and an
action plan to build and develop the marketing skills and talent by
providing them the necessary exposure and knowledge for the future,"
said Senior Vice President, SLIM Gamika De Silva.
SLIM held the local competition to select the two local winners who
secured the fourth place in the global competition held in Cannes from
June 17 to 23. SLIM joined hands with the International Advertising
Association (IAA) Sri Lanka Chapter and Metal Factor to provide this
opportunity for the Sri Lankan marketers.
"Participating in the Cannes Festival has always been a dream for all
advertising personnel around the world and this year Cannes opened their
doors to marketeers as well, where young marketers from around the world
were invited to represent their countries at the Festival," said Project
chairman, Ahamed Aroos.
