New chairperson at HNB Assurance

Dr. Ranee Jayamaha has been appointed as the Chairperson of HNB Assurance PLC from June 29, 2012. She is currently the Chairperson of Hatton National Bank PLC.

Dr Jayamaha has been the Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability of the Central Bank from 2004 up to her retirement in May 2009.


Certis Lanka Group celebrates 35 years

Certis Lanka Group celebrated 35 years. The Company felicitated employees for achievements and contributions to the Company. Fifteen award categories were identified. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa graced the occasion.

Some of the award categories were: Employee of the Year, Nurse of the Year, Driver of the Year, Courier of the year, Security Officer of the Year and Longest Serving Employee. Group Chief Executive Director and CEO, Certis Lanka Group, Vipul Hettige said "We are proud to commemorate 35 years of serving as commercial and industrial security specialists.


SLE Summit from July 10 - 12


The Sri Lanka Economic(SLE) Summit to be held from July 10- 12 will have a session on 'Skills and productivity to compete in the global market'. Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs Tissa Vitharana, and Research Fellow, Institute of Policy Studies Dr. Nisha Arunatilake, will deliver the keynote addresses at this session scheduled to be held on the final day of the event.


New Director at DFCC Vardhana Bank

Sunil G Wijesinha was appointed director of Vardhana Bank. He retired as Chairman and MD of Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC.

He was a previous Chairman of the Employees Trust Fund Board, Deputy Chairman of Sampath Bank and Chairman of Merchant Credit of Sri Lanka Ltd. He has been on several Boards in the private and public sector including SriLankan Airlines Ltd.


TFC opens pawning centres

The Finance PLC is expanding its pawning business and has recorded a remarkable year on year growth of 237 percent.

Two pawning centres were opened in Mahiyangana and Nuwara Eliya recently. Meanwhile, three new pawning centres were opened n June. The Ampara Pawning Centre was opened on June 14 in Ampara, the Bandarawela Pawning Centre was opened on June 18 and the Nittambuwa Pawning Centre was opened on June 22. With these three centres commencing business this month, the total number of The Finance Pawning Centres has increased to 39 and plans are afoot to cover more areas in the coming months.


Dipped Products introduces ‘Linepro’ glove

A new range of specialised rubber gloves that provide insulation against

electrical voltages of up to 17,000 volts has been developed by Dipped

Products PLC (DPL) Branded ‘Linepro,.’

These special-grade natural rubber gloves are for specialist users who work on high-voltage transmission lines, in electrical workshops or in the installation, maintenance and repair of high-voltage equipment.


Abans Manager Convention

Abans Ltd held its 15th Annual Manager Convention from June 18-22 . The Abans Group holds a Managers' Convention annually to share their achievements. The Abans Board of Directors, brand partners and the 500 managers attended the event.

The presentation of awards to managers and branches of the Abans Group included Best Inventory Management, Most Profitable Showroom, Highest Products Sales, Best Maintained Showroom, Supervision Awards and several others.
