Duty-free mobikes, laptops for over 11,000 GNs

Over 11,000 Grama Niladaris of 14,000 Grama Seva Divisions will be given duty-free motorcycles and laptop computers at concessionary rates under a scheme to be implemented by the Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne on August 1.

The motorcycle distribution will be initially launched in the Mullaitivu Divisional Secretariat Division and thereafter in selected Divisional Secretariat divisions, in the North-East, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces where Grama Niladaris face difficulties in performing their duties.

Minister Seneviratne told the Sunday Observer yesterday that the distribution will be completed soon.

According to statistics 25 percent of the Grama Niladaris are females.

Grama Niladaris could buy duty-free motorcycles by paying in full or in instalments, while 50 percent of the value of laptop computers will be borne by the Government and the remaining amount could be paid in instalments.

The Minister said travelling allowances would be paid to all Grama Niladaris to maintain their motorcycles.
