With PC Elections round the corner, there is a scramble for nominations. However, only those who are suitable will be given. Preference will be given for village youth with necessary credentials.

SLFP to give priority to rural youth

Q: Perhaps a large number of youth will seek SLFP nominations for the forthcoming PC elections. Will they get nominations?

A: Certainly, youth should be given the due place in politics. The SLFP gives priority to village youth. That's why a decision was taken not to give nominations to family members of politicians at the forthcoming PC election.

Q: When will the Northern Provincial Council elections be held?

A: It will be held within a year, probably before September 2013. We encourage youth politicians who suffered repression for 30 years at the hands of the LTTE.

UNP leader is working on the Nomination List

Q: What are the UNP plans for the forthcoming PC elections?

A: The Government has mixed its priorities, since it is the Northerners who should be given the right to exercise their franchise first.

The Government wanted to rush through with the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa PC elections without setting up the Independent Commissions recommended by the Lesson Learnt and Reconciliation Committee.

Q: When will the UNP finalise its nomination lists?

A: A committee headed by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is working on the nomination lists.

Nomination list will be decided on soon

Q: Did the JVP finalise nominations for the PC election?

A: A committee comprising Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, K.D. Lalkantha, Ramanathan Chandrasekar and myself will decide on the nominations.

Q: Have you decided on the chief ministerial candidates?

A: Former Parliamentarians Vasantha Samarasingha, Gamini Ratnayaka and Vasantha Piyatissa have been selected for chief ministerial posts in the three provinces.
