Rally with Rajans on July 14
MOTOR RALLY: Kandy's famous Motor Rally, 'Rally with Rajans', will go
on top gear this year and it is A 'MUST' for thrill seekers and
adventurers.
The '91 Rajans of the Dharmaraja College OBU will hold Kandy's very
popular 'Rally with Rajans' motor rally for the third consecutive year
on July 14, 2012, to coincide with the school's 125th anniversary
celebrations.
This year's Rally will begin from the top floor of the Kandy
Municipal Council's (KMC) four storied car park near the Kandy City
Center shopping complex and will end at Dharmaraja College's swimming
pool complex. The first Rally vehicle will leave the KMC car park at 12
noon whilst remaining vehicles will get on track with a gap of two
minutes each.
Claiming that 'there is an adventurer living within everybody', the
enthusiastic organising body announced that the Rally theme for 2012 is
'Explore the real you' where competitors are expected to find the track
highly challenging and arduous, especially in comparison with previous
years. 2012's exciting Rally track will exceed 90 kilometres in length,
with a gruelling mix of both on road and off road driving.
Furthermore, competitors will not be given a Rally route but will
need to navigate their way by referring to a 'special instructions'
leaflet in which the majority of information provided will be in time
and/or distance units" said a spokesperson.
Female competitors welcome
An equal opportunity event, female competitors and both individual
and team competitors are strongly encouraged by the organisers to
participate. All Rally drivers and Navigators will be subject to a
thorough medical check-up prior to the event and will be briefed on
rules and conditions, time and distance calculations and appropriate
safety practices to follow. The awards presentation and closing ceremony
will take place later in the evening at the Queen's Hotel in Kandy,
followed by dinner.
The "Rally with Rajans" motor rally is the only annual motoring event
in the Kandy region. First organised in 2010 by the '91 Rajans as a fund
raising campaign for their Alma-Mater, Dharmaraja College, Kandy, the
event today has a considerable fellowship and enjoys high popularity
amongst both professional and amateur rally drivers and sport
enthusiasts. The main objective behind this year's Rally is to raise
funds for the school's state-of-the-art Language Laboratory, estimated
to cost Rs. 4 million.
The rally is one of many fund raising projects towards this end. For
