Laugfs outlet in Hanwella

Laugfs opened its 31st retail outlet at High Level Road, Pahathgama, Hanwella recently.

It also awarded prizes to winners at the super-market opening. Among the prizes was a new Panda car which was awarded to Ms. Sharmaleen Ann de Zoysa. Laugfs also presented 12 new Singer motorcycles at the event.

The Laugfs Sunup Supermarkets, known as the 'Super that never sleeps' is a 24-hour supermarket chain that operates with a fuel retail outlet and a 24-hour pharmacy.


SMI apartment complex

SMI Housing is developing a 26-storey, luxury apartment complex at Deal Place, Colombo 3. This BOI-approved project is a $10 million investment.

The agreement was signed by BOI Chairman, Dr. Lakshman Jayaweera and SMI Housing, Director Zakeer Hussain Ibrahim.All apartments are spacious, 1,700 square feet, three-bedroomed units. There will be three apartments on each floor. The apartments will have European-standard fixtures and fittings. A state-of-the-art security and fire-safety system, a full- equipped gym and swimming pool are additional attractive amenities.


M. D. Gunasena opens computer school

Publisher, printer and bookseller, M. D. Gunasena, opened M. D. Gunasena Computer School recently, diversifying its business into IT education.Managing Director, Ananda Gunasena and officials of the company were present.

Principal of M. D. Gunasena Oasis International School, Ms. Chintha Fernando said, “The computer school is one of the latest educational ventures to continue the traditions of keeping the advancement of knowledge on par with our vision of imparting knowledge and building character. The vision of the computer school is to instill knowledge in everyone.”


Galadari launches mobile-optimised site

The Galadari Hotel launched its mobile-optimised site, allowing travellers on-the-go to search and book hotel rooms through their mobile phones. The project has been powered by Negete, an IT solutions provider.

“The website features a design specifically tailored for efficient mobile browsing, making the site easy to navigate,” a spokesman for the hotel said. Features of this site include quick links which provides straightforward navigation for room reservations, quick info, tap to call, and location and directions.

The hi-resolution image gallery allows viewing of images, which is important for travellers.

 


SLI declares Rs 4.2 b bonus

Sri Lanka Insurance (SLI) declared a life insurance bonus of Rs 4.2 billion for all its participatory life policy holders.

“The Rs 4.2 billion declaration is one of the highest ever life insurance bonuses declared in the country,” a spokesman for the company said.

“Sri Lanka Insurance declared unprecedented bonuses year-on-year due to the excellent management of its well matured life insurance fund, wise investments and prudent administration of the fund,” said Managing Director and CEO Mohan de Alwis.

Sri Lanka Insurance which believes that every individual should invest in life insurance has been spearheading many projects to take this message to every part of the country.


Bandula Egodage, new EDB chief

Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Communication at Nestlé Lanka, Bandula Egodage was appointed chairman of the Export Development Board last week by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen.

Egodage who has been with Nestlé for the past 28 years, has experience in rural development particularly in relation to dairy, exports, external and public affairs, and local and international government and regulatory engagement.


ComBank restores lamp posts at Dambulu Vihara


Commercial Bank, AGM, Properties and Services, Noel Wickramasinghe and Dambulla Branch Manager, Manoj de Silva, unveil a commemorative plaque at the site. The Commercial Bank has renovated 39 lamp posts lining the road to the historic Rangiri Dambulu Vihara at Dambulla.

The Bank originally built the ornate lamp posts in 1998.

A recent inspection conducted as part of the Bank’s commitment to sustaining its projects, revealed that the lamp posts were in need of repairs and repainting. The Bank, therefore, undertook to restore the lamp posts


Program for tourism SMEs

The Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) with the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Tourism (ASMET) Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Economic Development organised an awareness program 'Sustainable Tourism Development Project (STDP) - Matching Grants Scheme' for SMEs in Tourism, recently in Tangalle.

Resource persons from the People’s Bank and SwitchAsia Project enlightened SME businessmen on how to benefit from this scheme and improve their businesses, while adding value to the Sri Lankan tourism industry.

Adam Investments, controlled by Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein and Mrs. Danushya Mediwake Wethasinghe Gulamhusein, purchased 8.9% stake of Ceylon and Foreign Trades Plc (CFT) through a private crossing on the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Gulamhusein serves as Chairman of the Board of Adam Investments Limited.

Adam Investments Limited was incorporated in 2011, to focus on key growth industries that play a pivotal role in the country's economy.

 


Janashakthi opens branch at Athurugiriya


Chandra Schaffter hoists the national flag.

Janashakthi Insurance opened a branch in Athurugiriya recently. It was opened by Deputy Chairman of Janashakthi Insurance, Chandra Schaffter.

Members of the senior management of Janashakthi and several prominent people from Athurugiriya were present.
