Teacher asked to kneel down as punishment

North Western Provincial Councillor Ananda Sarath Kumara was arrested for punishing a woman teacher, by forcing her to kneel down, for advising his daughter over a disciplinary matter.

Navagattegama Police acted on a complaint lodged by the disciplinary teacher of Navodya Vidyalaya.

According to the police spokesman, the teacher had warned several students including the daughter of the Councillor that their uniforms were too short.

The girl in turn had complained to her father, who had subsequently visited the school and verbally abused the teacher. He had then made her to kneel down as a punishment. Police are conducting further investigations.
