The achievements of Dr. Saman Weerasinghe to foster friendship and
bilateral ties between Russia and Sri Lanka have been acknowledged by
the Russian President and the Government with the Order of Honour.
He is the first Sri Lankan to be awarded the highest State award of
the Russian Federation for foreign citizens.
The Russia President has signed a decree to decorate Saman Kumara
Ranjith Weerasinghe with the Order of Honour for his contribution to
develop and strengthen economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation
with the Russian Federation.
Dr. Weerasinghe was awarded the Order of Honour by the Russian
Ambassador Alexander Karchava, who presented the award on behalf of the
President of the Russian Federation on June 12 - the Russian Day.
The Order of Honour is a State Order of the Russian Federation
established by Presidential Decree No. 442 of March 2, 1994 to recognise
high achievements in government, economic, scientific, sociocultural,
public, sport and charitable activities.
