Dogs too are teargassed in Turkey!
Have the dogs too joined the massive protests going on in Istanbul
and other cities in Turkey at present? What are the dogs, obviously
pets,doing among the protestors?
Have the protestors brought them to show their strength?
Answers to these questions borders on absurdity, but the fact remains
that dogs or pets are the innocent victims of police brutality. Over
five days, police have deployed water cannons and tear gas and has
clouded Turkey's city centres. The Ankara-based Human Rights Association
says close to 1,000 people have been injured and more than 3,300 people
have been detained.
The Turkish Human Rights Association said 3,300 people nationwide
were detained during the four days of protests.
Turkey's state-run news agency says police have detained 25 people
for 'spreading untrue information' on social media and provoking
protests.
But many heartbreaking images of pets caught in the carnage as police
target protestors are being circulated in many personal blogs.
Out of them the image of this dog wearing a gas mask with a Turkish
sign around his neck calling for resistance in the protests reveals the
connection between the protestors and their pets.
'Dead' man wakes up during funeral
It was like a scene from an absurd drama! Brighton Dama Zanthe, 34,
"died" after a long illness at home in Gweru, Zimbabwe. Just when his
friends and the family prepared to pay their last respects the "dead"
man moved his legs and opened his eyes.
Mourners " jumped out of their skins" and ran in horror, imagining he
had come back from the dead to haunt them.
"I was the first to notice Zanthe's moving legs as I was in the queue
to view his body. At first I could not believe my eyes but later
realised that there was indeed some movements on the body as other
mourners retreated in disbelief," Lot Gaka, one of the mourners and
Zanthe's employer, told The Herald. Fortunately, Zanthe woke up just in
time; his body was set to be transported to a funeral parlour later that
day. After Zanthe "resurrected" he was taken to a local hospital, where
he remained on life support for two days before eventually being
released. After realising Zanthe was actually alive, relatives and
family members quickly uncovered him and sent him to Gweru Provincial
Hospital. Zanthe was discharged two days later after being on life
support machines.
Speaking in an interview, Zanthe said: "This issue can be best told
by people who came to my house to attend my funeral.
"I don't know what happened and I only remember being on a life
support system in hospital. Everything is history to me.
"What I can only confirm is that people gathered at my house to mourn
but I was given another chance and I am alive. I feel okay now."
Football crazy bridegroom given team bench as wedding gift
Fifty-year old John Aves and his bride Caroline are avid football
fans; they'll do anything or give up anything to watch and support their
favourite soccer teams Cambridge City and Norwich City respectively.

Team spirit: John Aves, and his wife Caroline line up for
their photograph on the bench, which they received as a
wedding gift. |
They so dedicated to their teams they decided to have their wedding
reception at Cambridge City grounds which is the home of John's
favourite team. He even wore yellow which is the Norwich City
colour-Caroline's team.
Now for a football crazy couple what would you choose as wedding
gift? Gifts such as toasters, forks and crockery they already have.
At the wedding reception John and Caroline lined up guests for a team
photo in the pitch-side bench. And so it was that John was delighted
when friends gave the newly married couple the very bench as a wedding
gift.
John Aves, from St Neots said: 'I've been a Cambridge City fan since
1962 when my dad took me to my first match, and in the mid-70s I was
club secretary before later becoming the physio.
'I knew the club were auctioning items but I'd no idea they'd bought
the bench - it was really a cool surprise.'
And what of the new Mrs Aves? The 39-year-old said: 'We will need to
cut it in half as it will take up half our garden.' |
