Thomians edge out Sylvestrians

St. Thomas’ College, Matale scored a close 2-1 win over St.
Sylvester’s College, Matale to enter the semi-finals of the All-Island
Schools Boys Under-17 Hockey Championship organised by the Sri Lanka
Schools Hockey Association and played at Matale yesterday.
The match produced exciting hockey and the match ended in a scoreless
draw. In the penalty tie breaker system which followed the Matale
Thomians won 2-1.
The results of the other matches played yesterday. Royal College beat
Wesley College 4-0, Vijaya College, Matale beat St. Aloysius’ College,
Galle 2-0, Zahira College, Matale beat Maris Stella College 2-0,
Dharmaraja College beat St. Peter’s College 2-1, Ananda College received
a walk over from Jaffna College, Nalanda College beat Royal College,
Panadura 2-0, Christ Church College, Matale beat Sirimavo Bandaranaike
Model School, Matale 2-0, Vijaya College beat St. Peter’s College 3-0,
Nalanda College beat St. Thomas’ College, Matale 1-0, Christ Church
College beat Trinity College 7-0, Dharmadutha College beat Richmond
College 2-0, St. Sylvlester’s College beat Bandaranaike Vidyalaya,
Gampaha 5-0, Zahira College, Matale beat Jaffna College 4-0.
The finals will be played today at 4 p.m. at the Nandimithra
Ekanayake Hockey Stadium, Matale. |
