Duckworth and Lewis come into bat:

South Africa push West- Indies out

An injudicious shot by Kieron Pollard cost West Indies a slot in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy when they were pushed out in a rain affected match at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday.Had Pollard not been out West Indies would have won the match because they were ahead of the Duckworh/Lewis par on 5 wickets. Then it would have been Wet Indies who would have moved into the next round. When 26.1 overs were bowled they needed 191 to win the match.

Theyleft the field on 190 for 6 when a drizzle began. The result awarded a point each and South Africa progressed by virtue of a greater net run rate.Pity that the dreaded pair of Duckworth and Lewis had to don pads to decide the fate of this match. The English weather turned fickle and it rained from morning in Cardiff which resulted in a reduced over match of 31 overs being played.West Indies won the toss and asked South Africa to bat.

Helped by a quick 73 from opener Colin Ingram 73 in 63 balls with 6 fours South Africa rattled up 230 for 6 in31 overs which was a formidable score.West Indies with Chris Gayle showing the way with 36 in 27 balls with 5 fours and a sixer and Marlon Samuels 48 in 38 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes made 190 for 6 in 26.1 overs.Generally the ball bashing West Indian batmen are good at chasing. But with the South African bowlers bowling good line and length and wicker to wicket, West Indies fond run making difficult. - Cardiff, Friday.
