Inaugural RCGC Inter-School Golf Championship on June 22

For the first time in Sri Lanka, 'DONS GOLF' in association with the Royal Colombo Golf Club presents the 'RCGC Inter-School Golf Championship' to be held on Saturday the 22nd of June 2013 at the RCGC.

The organisers wish to create an event with a difference with typical Sri Lankan "Big Match" style atmosphere and ambiance with live bands and other entertainment throughout the day amidst the tournament. This will also be a massive platform for awareness and networking, in order to understand as to how Golf can be more affordable and be taken to a school level where students can be trained and to compete.

"We believe this initiative will create interest and kick start Golf as a sport to be part of the school sports offering to the students", said the Project Chairman, Tyronne Weerackody.

The tournament organizers 'DONS GOLF' are a group of golf enthusiasts who are the old boys of D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo. What started as a friendly 4 ball has now grown to a players club of more than 20 avid golfers. The key focus of this event is to kick start a much needed inter-school tournament that has always had a significant demand.

"A herculean effort went in to organizing the inaugural RCGC Inter-School Golf Championship for the year 2013 in a very short period of less than a month and this will be the most looked forward to event in the golfing calendar in the future as well", said Malik Ahamadeen, President of 'DONS GOLF'.

The tournament will showcase 230 golfers representing 24 schools (including 5 girls schools) from all over the country that will compete for the coveted 'RCGC Inter-School Golf Championship 'Challenge Trophy' awarded by 'DONS GOLF'. The tournament format will be a 5-ball Stableford with 2 shotgun starts in the morning and afternoon.

Among the 40 or so golfing awards on offer, there are additional golf tours, drivers, putters, gift vouchers, hotel vouchers and a 'Goody bag' for each participant worth over Rs. 20,000 which undoubtedly is the largest array of prizes and gifts on offer at a single event that the RCGC has ever seen to date.

"Apart from the fantastic golfing response and probably being the most lucrative social golfing event yet seen at the RCGC, we have been very fortunate to also incorporate a CSR project with the magnanimous support received from E-Wis Peripherals (Pvt) Ltd, donating a child incubator worth Rs. 650,000 to our neighbouring 'Castle Street Maternity Hospital' which makes this event even more wholesome", said Mihindu Chandrasoma, the Tournament Director.

Our utmost appreciation to Hyundai Lanka and Orient Finance PLC as Gold Sponsors and Orange Electric as a Silver Sponsor who came forward at the most important juncture to support and kick start this 'first ever' event.

'DONS GOLF' would also like to thank the Corporate sponsors MAS Holdings, Amante, Kingsbury Hotel, Uni-Tec Fire and Security Systems, ODEL, Unilever, Metropolitan, American Premium Water Systems, Pro Golf, Dream Holidays, Precious House, Euro Substrates, HSBC, Sampath Bank, Citi Bank, Nations Trust Bank and Red Bull who contributed immensely towards making this event success.
