Pro-LTTE groups to be closely monitored:
Interpol help sought to track diaspora activists
by P. Krishnaswamy
The government is confident that the 16 pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora
organisations banned last week would be closely monitored by the
countries where they operate and consequently their activities will be
restricted, Deputy Minister of External Affairs Neomal Perera told the
Sunday Observer. Although the LTTE, the world’s most ruthless terrorist
outfit, was defeated militarily and now defunct, these organisations are
promoting its separatist agenda and pose a regional and global threat,
he said.
Members of the organisations and those connected to them will be
arrested and detained when they enter the country and indicted under the
law of the land, he said.
These groups and those connected to them have been identified and the
Government will seek the assistance of Interpol and the national
security authorities of those countries to have them arrested, Perera
said.
Steps will be taken to ensure that they are identified and arrested
even if they come with fake names on their passports, he said. |
