Novel project to dispose clinical waste

The Central Environment Authority has launched a novel project of disposing clinical waste.

According to CEA Director General Dr.Saranga Alahapperuma the proposed new program has already been initiated in the Colombo district. Under the scheme all clinical wastes collected from state and private hospitals in the district are taken to the incineration plant set up at the Angoda Government Mental Hospital premises for incineration.

There is no proper methodology of disposing these wastes in the island at present.

All these shortcomings would gradually be overcomed with the commencement of the project, he said.

On the progress of this program speedy action would be initiated to expand the program to districts of Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Kalutara, Gampaha, Kandy, Kurunegala and all other districts covering the whole country, he said.

He also expressed hope that this novel project introduced by the Authority to dispose clinical waste would enhance the environmental conservation and preservation.

The Ministry of Health is also extending the fullest support and cooperation for same.
