Novel project to dispose clinical waste

The Central Environment Authority has launched a novel project of
disposing clinical waste.
According to CEA Director General Dr.Saranga Alahapperuma the
proposed new program has already been initiated in the Colombo district.
Under the scheme all clinical wastes collected from state and private
hospitals in the district are taken to the incineration plant set up at
the Angoda Government Mental Hospital premises for incineration.
There is no proper methodology of disposing these wastes in the
island at present.
All these shortcomings would gradually be overcomed with the
commencement of the project, he said.
On the progress of this program speedy action would be initiated to
expand the program to districts of Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Kalutara,
Gampaha, Kandy, Kurunegala and all other districts covering the whole
country, he said.
He also expressed hope that this novel project introduced by the
Authority to dispose clinical waste would enhance the environmental
conservation and preservation.
The Ministry of Health is also extending the fullest support and
cooperation for same. |
