Holmes' statements come under fire

The UN Under Secretary General John Holmes' comments to Reuter News on the Sri Lanka's situation have raised a number of concerns, hence the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended its displeasure over the Holmes' statements as he failed to make such comments to the President or other officials during his meeting with them.

Final set of APRC proposals this week

Minister of Science and Technology and Chairman of the All Party Representatives Committee Prof. Tissa Vitharana will present the APRC's final set of proposals this week. Prof. Vitharana told the Sunday Observer that he was satisfied with the contributions by the political parties and agreement has been reached on most of the issues.

Lives of UNP dissidents threatened - Karu

After the UNP dissidents' group revealed that two of their MPs were approached by a representative of business tycoon Charles Gnanakoon and sought their help to topple the Government, the members of the group have received death threats, Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs Karu Jayasuriya said.

First Technical University to be set up

The National University of Vocational Technical Training, the first technical educational university in Sri Lanka will be set up under the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training this year in Ratmalana, Director General, Department of Technical Education and Training, Dr. H.L. Obeyesekera told the Sunday Observer.
