Raising funds through illegal means:
International crackdown on Tiger activities
International investigations are under way by the
Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany to crack down on LTTE
activities, specially its international financial network, by which
it is still raising funds through illegal means. Intelligence
sources told the Sunday Observer that the government is engaged at
diplomatic level with these and other countries in the European
Union to expose the LTTE’s financial network.

Attacks on Sri Lankan pilgrims:
No impact on neighbourly ties
The recent attacks on Sri Lankan pilgrims in
Chennai were perpetrated by certain pro-LTTE political hardliners to
seek publicity and these incidents have had no impact whatsoever on
the traditional neighbourly relations between the two countries,
Deputy Minister of External Affairs Neomal Perera told the Sunday

Vavuniya GA P.S.M. Charles has strongly refuted
reports in some sections of the Tamil media alleging that the health
of a large number of families who have been resettled in the Wanni
is in a precarious condition and are facing the threat of death,
after the Government’s relief assistance was discontinued.

All set for CPA confab next year
The Parliament of Sri Lanka has already laid the
ground work for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA)
Conference at the BMICH next year from September 7-15, Speaker
Chamal Rajapaksa told the Sunday Observer. An organising committee
under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody and an
Advisory Panel comprising Party Leaders under his chairmanship have
been appointed, he said.

Pottuvil calm after the high drama
The situation in Pottuvil has been brought under
control following the shooting incident after police opened fire on
a mob in Pottuvil killing one person, a senior police officer told
the Sunday Observer. The mob had protested against the arrest of six
persons who attacked officials conducting a census of wild
elephants. The people had attacked the officials fearing that they
were Grease Yakkas.
