The new scheme is introduced by the STGC in collaboration with the
pioneers in the Sri Lankan IT industry, HP, Intel and Microsoft.
According to the scheme, all Sri Lankans could become owners of
computers within a very short period of eight hours with the least
amount of paperwork. Speaking at a media briefing, Chairman and Managing
Director, STGC, Pradeep Gunawardana said this is the first occasion STGC
initiated such a program to encourage every Sri Lankan to be a proud
owner of a computer and to develop computer literacy, especially the
younger generation.
Now, the knowledge of computers and IT is essential for the younger
generation to seek suitable employment here or abroad.
Country Manager, Microsoft Sri Lanka Sriyan de Silva Wijeratne said
three varieties of laptops could be purchased under this scheme and one
of them is HP-431 which has a 512 MB Dedicated Video Memory. He said in
addition, the buyer of every laptop is given a free membership of HP
e-club.
