Three in same family die in train -trishaw crash

Three members of the same family were killed in a train-trishaw accident at an unprotected level crossing at Wellawa, Kurunegala yesterday.

The victims, N.B.M. Abeysinghe (47), son Umesh Chathuranga (13) and Chalani Kavindya (7) were travelling in their trishaw with the father at the wheel.

According to Wellawa police, the three had been travelling from Bamunapotha to Wellawa, after dropping the mother of the children at a village society meeting. The train had dragged the trishaw a few metres along the track with the victims inside. They were pronounced dead on admission to Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
