Greeting cards for a worthy cause
Once again, the month of greetings is on your doorstep with the
arrival of the Christmas and New Year season. You may already be busy
selecting greeting cards for your loved ones and well-wishers. But are
you aware that there is a segment of people who are awaiting your
selection from the cards released to the market by HelpAge Sri Lanka, so
that their elderly life is benefited from the proceeds of those card
sales?
HelpAge Sri Lanka, an organisation dedicated to the well-being of the
elderly population in Sri Lanka, as a part of its annual fund-raising
campaign, has released 23 new designs of greeting cards consisting of
paintings, photographs and graphics to the market, with that noble
objective of helping the needy elderly citizens of the country. These
include embossed and foil designs.
According to HelpAge, funds raised from the sale of greeting cards
have become a major contributor to its welfare activities for the
elderly population in the country since 1986. The proceeds of this
project are used to improve the quality of life of elders in Sri Lanka.
HelpAge operates mobile medical care units to provide free medical
and eye care facilities for needy elders, helps restore fading vision in
elderly by providing free cataract surgeries at HelpAge Sri Lanka Eye
Care Centre in Wellawatte and also provides free spectacles to needy
elders.
It also conducts programs on elders' rights, on home care for elders
and providing hearing aids, medicines and orthopaedic equipment to
elders.
