CCI program to overcome shortage in construction industry
by Ramani Kangaraarachchi
The Chamber of Construction Industry (CCI) has organised an Industry
Based Training Program to prepare students for internationally
recognised Guilds qualification to overcome the shortage of suitably
qualified technical personnel for middle level management grades which
is an acute problem in the construction industry.
CEO of the Chamber Dakshitha Talgodapitiya said that young
school-leavers are reluctant to join the industry due to lack of
opportunities in the industry to progress in their chosen career and
these programs will encourage them also to go ahead in the field of
construction industry.
He said that the program is designed in association with Skills
International (Pvt) Limited to produce qualified technical personnel at
various levels of project management while giving them a clear career
development path in Civil Engineering and a student with the basic entry
qualification would be guided through a series of theory and practical
courses up to a level of a qualified engineer making it possible for a
young school-leaver to follow a career in Civil Engineering without
going to a University.
The CCI will endeavour to find practical training places for those
who cannot find them and offer two streams of practical training for the
student and the employer to select, Talgodapitiya, said.
