Rally Round is a presentation of a careful selection of music from
Walt Disney, TV Series, Film songs, and Broadway Musicals with
particular attention given to lyrics and music which is appealing and
exciting for the different ages of the students.
Music and drama are essential components of College life at S.
Thomas' and this exposure to the music from
the diverse world of entertainment according to the Director, Vinod
Senadeera, will hopefully create a curiosity in the young singers to
discover the wonders of the world of theatre, that is out there waiting
to be savoured.
The children whose ages range between six and seventeen have
undergone serious rehearsal routines since March and are now ready to
let the curtains go up on a magnificent show not to be missed. The one
and a half hour performance by the Thomian family will see the
Kindergarten students bring to life songs from the current well loved TV
series Barney, the lower school will perform popular songs from Walt
Disney films while the middle school reaches out to you with hits from
Broadway musicals like Oliver, Oklahoma, the king and I, the Fantasticks
and more.
The seniors will take you through the French Revolution in song with
selections from Les Miserables and enchanting medley of songs from the
greatest films ever. The audience too will be a part of the extravangaza
as they will be able to join in the production to sing some favourite
film songs. The magic of Rally Round does not end here. The College
quadrangle will be illuminated lavishly to make you sit and enjoy your
dinner with family and friends.
Produced by the parent Teacher Association, the sets are by Nimal
Bulathsinhala. Lighting is by Imran Packir Saibu and the choreography by
Mohan Sudusinghe. Working with 275 children is no mean feat and to the
Director Vinodh Senadeera it is soul satisfying to watch the children
transformed from a quivering paralytic state of stage fright to bold and
creative players whose exuberance has been hand to contain. |
