Sumith wins silver medal in pistol shooting
Pistol Shooting: Former, Sri Lankan Olympic Boxer and Champion Rifle
and Pistol Shooter, Sumith Liyanage added another laurel to his
illustrious sporting career by winning a Silver Medal in Pistol Shooting
at the recently concluded 2007 World Police and Fire Games in Adelaide,
Australia.
A retired DIG of the Sri Lanka Police, presently Security Manager of
Paints and General Industries, Sumith showed that he had lost none of
his prowess in Pistol Shooting by over coming competitors from 48
countries worldwide to annex the silver medal in the "Police
Action-Pistol" event.
The match consisted of eight stages and Sumith did well in all to win
the Silver medal overall. Very competent shooters from the Police forces
worldwide including those from "SWAT" teams from the United States,
participated and a high standard of shooting was recorded. The events
were so designed to simulate actual conditions that the competitors
would face in real life situations in the course of their Police duties.
Sumith Liyanage is no stranger to international competitors at the
highest level, having been Sri Lanka's (Ceylon then) Olympic
representative in boxing at the Rome Olympic Games in 1960.
