Ladies - Musaeus rowing clash Oct 6

ROWING: Ladies College oarswomen who emerged women's Open Overall
Champions and Intermediate Champions at the 23rd Rowing Nationals are
fancied to retain the title at the annual Ladies College and Musaeus
College Regatta 2007 to be held on Saturday, October 6 on the Beira
Lake.
Musaeus College who became women's Junior Champions at the Nationals
and who are the holders of Marie Musaeus Higgings Challenge Trophy, are
bound to offer stiff opposition to Ladies College.
Ladies College crew and the Musaeus College crew have won many titles
in rowing.
It is something worthwhile to note that Ladies College and Musaeus
College today form the vanguard of women's rowing in Sri Lanka.
Amenthi Weerasinghe, Amayi Madawala, Amaya Jayasuriya and Sarani
Jayawardena are expected to perform well for Ladies College and Musaeus
College will expect good performances from Sachitra Jayatilaka, Vinuri
Jayasundera, Swarnamali Wijesinghe and Sanjeewani Kularatne.
The eight oarswomen from both schools fared prominently at the Rowing
Nationals.
The regatta will commence at 2 p.m. and the following events will be
worked off - 'A' Scull, 'B' Scull, 'C' Four, 'A' Four, 'B' Pair, Old
Girls Race, 'B' Four and 'The Boat Race.'
The winners and runners-up in respective events will be presented
medals and the overall champions will receive the Marie Musaeus Higgings
Challenge Trophy.
In the series Ladies College won in 2004 and Musaeus College won it
in 2005. The regatta was not held last year due to South Asian Games. |
