Two new records at School Games
Sonali Kumari Weerasekera of Sevamukthakandawura
Maha Vidyalaya established a new meet record in the Girls under-21
Putt Shot, while Shayini Mahaliyana of St. Bridgets Convent added
the other new record on the penultimate day of the four day
All-Island School Games Athletic Championships conducted by the
Ministry of Education and held at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

1st one-day against England tomorrow - Mahela orders team to
start afresh
Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardena said that
he has no intention in living on past laurels, being runner-up of
the 2007 World Cup and made it clear that the team has to start all
over again. Sri Lanka will take on England in a five Bradford and
Bingley day night ODI series, the first starting tomorrow (Monday)
at the Rangiri Dambulu Stadium.

Bertie and Stanley star performers in first game
Ceylon Cricket Association, as it was known in
1953, the year that the ever popular Gopalan Trophy cricket 'tie'
between the Madras Cricket Association and the Ceylon Cricket
Association was inaugurated, was a significant one for the Ceylonese
as they recorded a hat-trick of wins in the first three years of the
competition. The 'tie' was played on a reciprocal basis.
