SYMBOL OF POWER: Its large exhaust pipe ready to belch forth that inevitable polluting accompaniment to much-needed electricity generation, the 115 mega watt thermal power plant at the Kelanitissa complex in Colombo now stands ready to add its energy to the national grid. When it begins operation next week the gas turbine generator will meet as much as 10 per cent of the country’s power demand.
