FESTIVE GLITTER: The myriad coloured lights festooning the Arulmihu Siva subramaniya Swamy Kovil at Slave Island, Colombo 2 make a magnificent spectacle at night these days during the Kovil’s annual festival. Permission of Speaker sought : CID checks Ratwatte's assets declaration

Police investigators are to ask the Speaker of Parliament whether the more than Rs. 40 million worth of certificates of deposits belonging to former senior PA government minister Anuruddha Ratwatte and his wife had been included in his Declaration of Assets submitted to Parliament.

Thai talks : LTTE team drawn from overseas network

The LTTE's delegation to the first round of political negotiations due to be held in Thailand later this month is drawn entirely from the movement's overseas network. While the delegation is led by London-based chief spokesman Dr. Anton Balasingham and will include experts on law and refugee issues, none of the Tiger high command in the Vanni will take part, political sources said.
