ADB pledges US $ 200m

Asian Development Bank President Tadao Chino after visiting tsunami devastated areas in Sri Lanka yesterday pledged US $ 200 million to assist the reconstruction effort of the Government.

Tsunami rations

The government has decided to provide a relief package including food and other essential items amounting to Rs. 375 per week on the ration for each person displaced as a result of the tsunami disaster commencing from next week, said a press release issued by the Commissioner General of Essential Services.

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga will submit the government's detailed reconstruction plans at the National Committee for Disaster Management that meets tomorrow.
