Tsunami reconstruction :

EU pledges Euro 100m

European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero- Waldner will arrive in Colombo tomorrow as the European Commission plans to allocate a 350 million Euro post-tsunami reconstruction package to the region.

An Army deserter and a suspected criminal wanted in connection with several bank robberies and for the murder of a businessman in Kadawata was shot dead by police last morning at Ragama when he grappled with the police driver to free himself, Police said.

Grants to rebuild tsunami damaged houses

Submission of building plans and land titles was not needed to obtain compensation for houses damaged by tsunami disaster, a spokesman for the Central Bank told the Sunday Observer.
